Danny Orellanes, a 27-year-old man, was arrested on the charge of Intoxication Assault earlier this week when his allegedly intoxicated driving of a flat-bed big-rig truck precipitated a serious multi-vehicle collision on San Antonio’s northwest side. The San Antonio Police Department stated that witnesses reported seeing Orellanes driving a flat-bed big-rig truck at an alarmingly high speed while erratically weaving in and out of traffic. Cell-phone video recorded by one witness, shows the big-rig truck speeding down N.W. Military Highway before rear-ending a pick-up truck. From that point on, at least three other individual vehicles became involved in the crash, and one of them was completely flipped over as a result. The police stated that three people were transported to the hospital as a result of the crash, one of whom was in critical condition. The police have determined that Orellanes is at fault for the accident. No updates have been made on the condition of those injured.

Recovering for Injuries After a Car Accident in Texas

If you have been injured in a car accident that was not your fault, you may be feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to turn for support. The first stop you should make is with your insurance provider. But what if they deny your claim, or offer you a low settlement? Would you even know if the settlement was too low? Maybe you are even having a hard time holding your own in conversations with them. It makes sense. They do this for a living.

There is often an inherent imbalance of power in car insurance settlement negotiations, as insurance companies have a vested interest in paying out as few claims as possible. This means that insurance agents rarely have your best interests in mind. They also have extensive training in how to avoid the assumption of liability and paying out claims. This can make it hard for individuals recovering from a recent car accident to represent themselves effectively and get the compensation to which they are entitled. For instance, many people believe they are only entitled to compensation for expenses they have already incurred, but often insurance settlement offers are made very early in the process before the full extent of necessary medical care is known. Settling too early without calculating the cost of all future care and expenses can mean missing out on the future compensation you are entitled to, as well. For this reason, it can be helpful to hire an attorney as soon as possible following an accident to help you navigate the settlement process, as well as to consider additional means for recovery.
